Okay, I’ll admit it..I talk to my houseplants. Like, full-on conversations about their day while I water them. It might be weird, but I swear they’re thriving, and it gets me in a good mood too!

Do you have any quirky habits or routines that feel totally normal to you but might make other people do a double take?

I also talk to my plants! They seem to really enjoy it as well.

My weird habit is mispronouncing words. Not necessarily on purpose… when I speak, I see the words in my mind before they come out. Like dictating a book or passage. So I say some words as they are spelled, instead of commonly said.

One example is ‘says.’ I tend to pronounce it like ‘pays,’ or ‘ways’ because it looks similar. Basil is BAH-sil, thermometer is THERMO-meter, and other such phonetic pronunciations. It’s not intentional, I just say it how it looks.

I think it’s kinda cute, and sort of annoying, and I get it if it irks some people. I really can’t control it though. Why doesn’t says rhyme with pays?! That’s what makes no sense!

I pick a coffee cup that matches my outfit for the day. I do the same with a lamp where I can control the color; I try to match the color to what I am wearing.

I'm outside...lots.

Gardening, property maintenance, cycling, rucking, stretching, volunteer work.

Anyway.

I find myself sending a blessing to all the animals as they run, amble, or fly by. It now automatic now...a silent "Bless you Brother...Bless you Sister".

Same, but with more emphasis for road kill.

My God! I've become Francis!!

S'pose an old man could do worse.

Similar to another response on this thread: when I hang out with someone who has an accent, or I watch a movie or series I talk to myself with the accent. For example I like to watch British shows, later I find myself talking to myself with the accent. I have a friend who’s Scottish, and have African, and Jamaican coworkers. Depending who I last hung out with that’s how the accent in my head will be 😂

I told my mom yesterday that i think im autistic/have tourettes... Because i blurt shit out sometimes on autopilot, crazy stuff, and its either true or totally something untrue and wild i joke and ppl dont know if im joking or not. Sometimes i forget to explain and people are left wondering im sure lol...but i usually dont care. I also think outloud, its funny bc I will hear a song and its my situation and i will talk back to the music, or constatly making side effect noises. Not sure this counts but..i am the happiest person with such a traumatic past and terrible luck. But i find joy so easily, and it keeps me going n makes my day. For example, i went to the goodwill and saw leggings with shamrocks on them. The pricd was 6.66. So of course i have to go tell the cashiers at checkout and i said, "what the hell, i aint buying that shit! Doesn't sound like luck to me!" We all shared a big laugh, and I was cracking up about it all day. I also have these serendipity momments...lived in the real fucking truman show that i can write a best seller about and, years ago gave a stranger a ride, ran into him like 3 times in the next 6 weeks. Found someone online with the exact replica of my dog. Looked into a girls eyes, never seen someone with the same eyes ever in life...she shows me her tattoo on her leg with her kids' names. I point to it and said, thats MY kids' names! " we were both blown away, i also guessed her daughters birthday. Ive had divine appointments and dreams come to pass as well, and I am a spiritual seer. Ive seen angels and demons for years. Dont care who believes me or not. Hmmmm...I should write a book, what y'all think?

I sing when I’m nervous or scared. Basically anything but often silly commercial jingles or 80’s cartoon theme songs. Occasionally Christmas carols.

When I tell my kid something that I know they don't want to hear (it's bedtime, let's get homework done, time to shower, time for chores, etc) I always say it in a very deep, drawn out, almost pompous English accent (Nigel Thornberry-adjacent). Idk exactly when I started doing it, but over the years he's begun responding in the same accent, and it's adorable. And it puts him in a less unpleasant mood to do whatever unpleasant thing I just told him.

I watched a documentary that actually proved that plants move little and can listen to full on conversations. Also calling them baby names makes plants healthier and more productive

I also talk to my plants! I will tell them how proud of them I am when I see them growing new leaves etc, and they are doing so well. I swear this helps haha.

When I see geese fly over in autumn on their way south, I wish them a good journey :) and when I see them return in spring, I tell them “welcome home”.

I talk to my house plants a lot too lmao it's hard not to when you have 110 plants in an apartment 😂 I have a habit where no matter where I am, if there are dying or dead leaves on a plant I'll start picking them off to help the plant maximize it's energy. This has happened at my folks, friends, restaurants, and office buildings lol

Haha, I love that! Talking to your houseplants sounds like a cozy little ritual. I guess for me, I have this weird habit of naming my pillows and giving them personalities, actually i named the other one, Mochi and the other one is chu chu lol. Like, I’ll tell them goodnight, ask if they’re comfy, and have little conversations before bed. It’s definitely quirky, but it somehow makes me feel more connected to my space!

Besides talking to my green babies, I also give them a kiss each (I have eleven of them) after watering and believe me, they are absolutely flourishing.

I write the date I purchased the fast food/made leftovers on top of the tupperware box. It's been good to remind me to eat them + how long I can shelf them before they're too old to be eaten safely.

I honestly have no idea why more people don't do this.

When I go to sit on the couch, I actually step up onto it and then turn and sit down cross legged (kinda like a cat). I only realized recently that this is kindof abnormal (btw I would never step on someone else’s couch)

That I’m open to take psychedelics like acid and mushrooms and mix them together with Molly In very high amounts to really get out there and just enjoy what my brain can make happen in that state.
