I always heard a lot of people rave about Severance. I thought it was a comedy show about a family fighting over a company their father decided to leave? A show in similar vein to the office. I don't know where I got that idea. I knew it was an Apple TV exclusive and I never had any desire to get Apple TV so I never looked more into it. However, the other day I over heard someone talking about the newest season of Severance, specifically the opening theme. So I looked it up on youtube and and I realized it wasn't what I thought it was at all. The opening was trippy, cerebral and did not fit the tone of a comedy show at all. Turns out it is more like a sci-fi, mystery, thriller which is right up my alley of TV shows I enjoy. It just so happens I can get a free 7 day trial of apple TV and I had today off. So, I started Severance and it is definitely nothing like the office lol. I am looking forward to watching Silo and maybe Ted Lasso!

So you confused Severance with Succession.

I was sure I wasn't going to like Firefly. I mean... a western in space? Riiiight.

Now: You can't take the sky from meeee!

Schittscreek. I avoided it for years because of the title.

Bobs burgers. I thought it sounded and seemed stupid.

I ended up watching it and now it's my background show during the day lol

I did this with Letterkenny for 10 years, thinking it was Trailer Park Boys.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I saw it and went "ugh another cop show? Don't we have enough of them" but they're genuinely hilarious

Lost. I thought it was gonna be a survival TV show about surviving on an island. Like Castaway with friends. By the time the polar bear and mist had shown up I was out.

Deadwood, I don’t like westerns so I never thought about watching it. My late husband loved it and I always refused. One night we had some bet and if he won I would watch the first episode, I lost the bet, but goddamn what an amazing show.

Fargo. The first season just seemed like a remake of the movie and I wrote it off halfway through the first episode. I actually ended up skipping the first season and realized all the following seasons are their own entire plots with different characters and stories. One of the best shows ever made!

Ted Lasso for me! I ended up binging all 3 seasons in a week, and I laughed and cried. It was such a good show!

The Office. My brother was watching it and I thought he was losing brain cells because of it. He made me sit down and watch a few episodes, next thing I knew I was laughing my ass off, ugly crying, and binging the entire thing. Masterpiece of a show, it was.

I have always been a big Trekkie, and I always thought Stargate was just a Star Trek knockoff. I watched it a few years ago and LOVED it. I love Stargate Atlantis so much, and the whole franchise really. It lead me to watch Farscape, which I also love.

Archer.

I spent the first 3 or 4 seasons not understanding why people thought it was so good because "I'd seen some episodes and just....it was meh"

I was confusing Archer with Frisky Dingo...lol

So here's one I was never wrong about being a good show, just wrong about who the likeable characters were. The original Wonder Years. When watching it as a kid versus rewatching as an adult, perspective changed. As a kid, you were rooting for Kevin Arnold - his dad was grumpy, his best friend was whiny and nerdy, his girlfriend was hard to please. He just wanted things to go his way. As an adult, Kevin is the jerk most of the time. His dad works long hours at a job he hates to provide for his family and doesn't have patience for his sons' bullshit, but he always comes through big when his kids need him. His best friend just wants to be treated with respect and encouraged a little. His girlfriend has the worst lot of everyone - brother dies in Vietnam, parents separate afterwards but reconcile, but she's moved across town, and just wants to forget the last couple of years. And Kevin just can't see past his "but what about me??" mentality

My daughter wanted to watch the She-Ra reboot, and I was dreading it… but it turned out to be a pretty awesome watch.

The fruits basket reboot. I tried it years ago but quickly stopped because of the animation and the voices seemed off. But I gave it another try this year and I'm obsessed with it and the music. The prelude was a let down though.

Futurama. I don"t care about the Simpsons so I didn't give it a chance. Best show ever.

Arcane, mostly because I assumed one would have to play to game to understand.

I'll show my age here, but... when the Office came out and everyone said how cool it was, I thought it sounded really stupid. I'd just started working in offices and the snow sounded boring. Little did I know how much it would help me out of some bad times in life later on.

I refused to believe that Elementary was better than BBC Sherlock until I watched it and saw the last few series of Sherlock.

Elementary is a better show.

Not a TV show but the first time I watched Donnie Darko, I went into it thinking it was going to be a comedy for some reason. It was…. not very funny as it turns out (but good in other ways thankfully)

Sailor Moon. I always assumed that anime in general was weird, immature, and would never appeal to me. But during the shutdowns in 2020, Sailor Moon showed up in my Hulu recommendations and I decided to watch it. I was amazed and couldn't believe how good it is. The art work, the characters, the humanization of the villains, the depiction of Tokyo, its wholesome and kind-hearted vibes. Some of the episodes, especially in the first season, haven't aged well, but overall the series is fantastic and I can understand why it has such a dedicated fan-base.

I though Emily in Paris genuinely was about the assistant in Devil Wears Prada.

Since I got bored before the trailer ended, I've decided that "Emily-the-assistant eventually made it to Paris and got up to shenanigans" is my new headcanon and be done with it.
