View submission: What’s the weirdest “unwritten rule” everyone just follows?

Not sure if this counts…

I’m a lefty so I just realized this recently- switching hands when you eat. Most people (righties) apparently use their knife in the dominant hand when eating and then switch to the fork. I’ve just done fork left knife right my whole life and had no idea that people typically switch.

Are you in the US as well? I’ve heard that people from other countries find this strange when they come here.

I'm right handed, but learning to use cutlery I sat next to my dad (leftie) and opposite my mum (rightie) so I eat left handed. When I set the table for dinner I have to consciously switch the knife and fork to the "wrong" side so that it's right for everyone else sitting at the table. Also means I can carve meat both left and right handed which comes in handy.
