I live in Europe and sometimes reach out to my family and friends back in Cameroon. Each time I say hi or hello...the next thing they do is ask for money. There's no meaningful communication or care if one is doing okay. I feel there's this assumption because one is abroad he/she must send them money.

Is this a normal behaviour?

Everyone is always sick and broke

Next time they come ask for money, just ask them a business idea that you can help fund to help them out. I have done for lot of friends and familly memebers and now they are all doing better financially

Yeah that’s normal that’s why no one has my number besides my mom and my favorite aunt. I change numbers and block people. I have also told my mom to never give my number to anyone without consulting me. I get it people are suffering but I am not a bank.

You have to establish strong boundaries and that is going to be hard because you may feel guilty. You saying no does not make you a bad selfish person, you have your own needs to take care of yourself.

It's normal to them. Learn how to say no because they will never stop asking

It’s very normal. The more you succeed in life, it seems like a disadvantage to you because you become the go to person

Bro if you want to give someone money, ask the person many questions and ask him to bring documents or letters so that if they are not really serious, they'll give up. And also tell them sometimes that things are not easy on your side so that they stop asking. Another way is to give them tasks to do for you before you give them money etc.

tbh look up the equivalent of $10 or even $5 in CFA and then think of how much you spend on non essentials. you don’t have to roll over and let ppl walk all over you but i think we rly need to be honest with ourselves if we don’t live in the country/continent. yes it sucks to feel like people are using you. and also sending a monthly amount or yearly amount to people back home is completely okay because of the differences in dollar value. tbh that’s why they are asking.
