I was a chair behind a kid who fell off a chair on Morningstar a few years ago, probably about a 20 ft fall but fortunately it was a spot that happened to have deep powder below to cushion the blow. The kids mom was on lift with them and was screaming. I almost fell off myself because it shocked me. I asked patrol later how the kid was and they said no major injuries

I use the bar all the time. Easy to do. Imagine trying to sue the ski hill or the insurance company and the lawyer asks "did you use the safety equipment provided?" in front of the jury.

I did this as a kid on the coach chair. Luckily it was powder I fell into, I was still stuck though

I started using the bar more often. It's nice to rest my legs and you never know when something unexpected will happen. It's kind of a weird culture where 99% of everyone wears helmets but it isn't cool to put the bar down.

Bogus is super cautious about the safety stuff (backpacks off, leashes on step on snowboard bindings), it wouldn’t really surprise me to see them mandate the bar at some point

There is a reason why the safety bars are put on the chair and we all know that reason, so don’t be a dolt.

I was on the lift chair directly behind when it happened. Watched the whole thing take place, the person was messing around with their friends and fell headfirst onto their neck. They were not sober, and did not have the restraint bar down. I seldom use the bar myself when riding up, but I'm also sober. Please drink responsibly.

Nobody uses the bar at Bogus. Had one person pull it down once without warning and the bar drilled me right in the nuts.

This sub loves to downvote. But I’m just stating my experience at Bogus as I ride there multiple times a week. If you pull the bar down give the person you’re on the lift with a heads up so you don’t hurt them.

I’ve been skiing for 20 years and rarely use the bar. I wish them a speedy recovery but what were they doing to fall off of it???

Not all chairlifts have safety bars....KTVB’s article said the person fell off the Coach Chairlift, which lasted I skied at Bogus the Coach lift didn’t have a safety bar. Praying for a swift recovery no matter why they fell.
