Hi everyone, I’m planning to visit Belgrade on 7th February with my family (we’re a group of three), but I’ve heard about ongoing protests in the city. I wanted to ask if it’s safe to travel and move around as tourists during that time. Are there any areas we should avoid or any specific precautions we should take?

It's one of the safest cities in Europe, you'll be fine.

It is safe, protests are against government and they do not attack anyone. In Serbia, there are no such thing as no-go zone, you are safe anywhere and violent crime rate is very low.

The protesters are peaceful. Each day at 11:52 AM, they gather to block certain streets and crossroads for 15 minutes of silence in honor of the victims in Novi Sad. The participants are mostly students, with some members of the general public joining them. After the 15 minutes, they return to their faculties or continue with their day.
On some days, larger protests are scheduled, where they gather in front of various institutions. These protests are also peaceful and non-violent.
If you happen to come across one of these events, you can simply find your way around them, and you’ll be fine.

I've traveled there alone, twice. It's completely safe. Nothing funky has ever happened. I don't have experience with the protests though.

this subreddit should have a pinned post at the top that just says "Before you post, yes, it's very safe"

This sub is not that active, ask Serbia is better. It is still very safe like it's always been. There are no specific areas to watch out for like in the west. Just be aware of your surroundings like you would anywhere anytime and use your common sense.

It's completely fine to travel, although there has recently been more protests than usual there is always clear time displayed for them (you can visit r/askserbia for that and know when and where they would take place) and it's usually in a clearly marked place if you would like to avoid it, but it should be alright even in those places to pass and get around the City. There is no reason to postpone your trip.

Heyhey, I've personally participated in the protests and ofc live in this city. It's perfectly safe, the only thing that you could face is stopping in traffic for 15 minutes of silence if you happen to be going somewhere at 11:52 and crossing an intersection that just so happens to be blocked.
When you do come over you're free to DM me for help about anything, I can translate the news for you and let you know if there's anything major going on that might affect you :)

We were just there for a few days with two young kids. Other than the pollution there is nothing to worry about.

We've just returned from a weeks stay in Belgrade. Absolutely loved every minute of it. Plenty to see and do, I'd recommend a free walking tour at the start of your stay, really interesting facts and information from Belgrades past. A visit to Novi Sad is also worth a visit.

As a foreigner currently staying in Serbia, you will be fine. The worst that the protests may block the road causing delays in the public transport, but as long as you’re chill and go with the flow you will be fine.

I went when there were protests and a derby and I didn't encounter anything sketchy, even though I took long walks at night almost every day

Protestants are not violent, do not worry. Just take care when you are crossing the street, we have crazy drivers... And avoid Belgrade H20, many criminals are there all day, every day.

If you have a place to stay that's not New Belgrade I think you'll be fine. And get a taxi if you're coming from the airport, getting through bridges can be problematic if you're using bus and there is a protest happening. Generally it's all OK, these are super peaceful protests that we have and they are opposite of agressive ones. Hope you have a nice stay!
