View submission: Why is city centre such a dump?

I'm from the Ormeau and couldn't disagree more. Many locals have been pushed out by gentrification. There always were nice coffee shops like Graffiti and Soul food but now what you have is the Ormeau road becoming a fashionable destination to visit by people from other areas. Now you have local and national chains; Nero and Little Wing. Then you have businesses choosing to expand into Belfast there, Indie fude etc.

My family for a long time prefer to meet in the city centre because you get a better experience and value for money than on the overpriced Ormeau.

That’s exactly what I mean though! It’s the negative impact of smaller local areas expanding, it attracts people from elsewhere and becomes more expensive to live in the more popular it gets, and locals get pushed out. And yes, more chain businesses start opening up there - East is the same, there’s a Caffé Nero on Lwr Newtownards Rd now?! I found it hard to believe when it opened, definitely not a good sign.
