View submission: Why is city centre such a dump?

Honestly don’t think it is. I’ve been in plenty of cities I’d say feel dodgy and Belfast is way down that list. Never really see any trouble, can’t say there’s really any litter and very few homeless people around.

Is it actually dodgy by any normal city standards or have you just moved to the countryside and now get overwhelmed when you come back to the big smoke?

Also, Belfast is one of the safest cities in the UK.

Fully agree, it seems popular these days to bash city centres. I'm in the city centre daily and see places like the ivy, Amelia hall etc making it feel more welcoming. Plus the regeneration of the new h&m building, apple store etc.

Not saying there aren't issues but really don't think it's that bad. There are a fair few alcoholics about which does need addressing tbf.

I’m not in the country just the suburbs but the last few times I’ve been in the city centre it’s def different feeling to when I was a student or younger at least. That could just be me like but I’ve now read a few posts asking the same so I’m thinking there’s been a shift

Agree with this, I moved here from England 20 years ago and I would much rather walk around belfast city centre at night then I would my hometown. Knife crimes not as bad. There is a bigger drug problem in the centre then there used to be. But compared to where I'm from belfast would be a lot safer.
