Stars Cafe (formerly Star Seeds) is not bad 100% of the time, but when it is, it is comically, sometimes infuriatingly bad. During my last visit the server sat hunched over the counter with headphones on, watching her phone and eating Doritos while had empty coffee and no silverware. I keep showing up though, like going back to a bad relationship believing that they will change.

To be fair, that used to be *why* you went to Star Seeds. I spent many weekend nights sitting at that counter, drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes, eating giant breakfast tacos, and watching that weird angry anarchist collective of a waitstaff hurl abuse at drunk sorority girls and frat bros. They used to have a big sign that said "This ain't Burger King. You don't get it 'your way', you take it our way, or you don't get a fucking thing." And they put on a mean facade, but generally if you weren't a dipshit they were cool with you.

Last time I went there, they ignored us for about 30 minutes. When someone finally took our order, they promptly forgot it and had to come back and ask again. Then when our food was delivered, the waiter knocked over my drink and it spilled right on my food, so I had to wait another 30+ minutes for them to remake my order.

I went for a burger during a family members extended stay at st david’s and had great service, mind you the only person working took my order, bantered with me and then went to make my burger while yelling at what sounded like the manager on the phone. I feel like the problem might be from above there. Also intimately familiar with them, historically speaking.

Burger was fine. I miss the big menu.

Many years ago I sat in a near empty Star Seeds on a Sunday morning with a friend and her young son. He was maybe 6 at the time, but could have been as young as 4. He ordered a yogurt parfait. We’d been waiting at least an hour, maybe longer, for our food. The exasperated kid looked up from whatever he was playing with and asked, “how long does it take for yogurt and FRUIT?!”

It was a fair question. The answer was another 20 minutes.

I haven’t been back since.

I recently suggested to the cook that he should watch some youtube videos of people cooking breakfast so he can get the hang of it at some point.
