Can anyone explain the appeal of Emilia Perez? I watched a few clips on YouTube, and it looks awful. The more I hear about the plot and the director's intentions (or lack thereof), the less interested I become. Is it one of those "so bad its good" type of movies? Or do I just not "get it"?

Fernanda Torres is a fucking national treasure, I'm so happy and so proud of her! Her mother was **robbed** in 99 and she's coming for revenge.

Surprised that Sebastian Stan’s nomination was for his role in the Trump movie and not *A Different Man*, which I thought was a better film and a better performance, although that might just be because Trump is intolerable in any form lol

Sing, Sing should be running away with EVERYTHING. Incredible movie. Most noms are very average - average af film year frankly. But my favorites are:

Sing, Sing,, Conclave, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys.

I think Emilia Perez was an awful movie, and The Brutalist was awfully average. But unfortunately i expect both of them to win most of their noms. Very annoying.

I wouldn’t be mad at Anora and the Substance winning. I think Yuri’s nomination was a mistake, amongst others.

Predictions: The Substance takes home multiple wins (not because I think it should though it was an interesting film, but based on how the Oscars traditionally chooses winners)

Favorites: No Other Land (very difficult to get anything showing the humanity of Palestinians and even a little bit of the apartheid and genocide they suffer out into the world, and this was well done). I wish "From Ground Zero" were also nominated.

It’s so great to see The Substance get this much recognition, considering films within the horror genre are oftentimes snubbed. I thought Anora was fantastic and well deserving of multiple nominations. I also have a soft spot for A Real Pain

emilia perez did NOT need a single nomination. also my two favourite films of 2024 have been challengers and monkey man, both which didn't get anything. i'm planning on watching wicked and the brutalist tho as i haven't yet

I’m just so annoyed with The Substance love at this point. The movie was just OK to me. But I’m certain Demi Moore will win best actress. She’s a phenomenal actor. But this movie was so average to me.
