View submission: Do you eat your 5 a day?
Curious - are you counting the serving size of these or just listing each thing you have as a serving? For example I have 5 different veg in my stir-fry but that definitely isn't 5 servings of veg as far as the weight guidelines go. Technically I make a veg and bean soup that has a dozen different things in there but I only have a normal sized bowl so wouldn't count that as 12 servings lol

The 5-a-day and the 30plants things are entirely unrelated and serve different health benefits.
The 5 a day was to try and increase fibre intake and to a lesser degree improve the vitamin & mineral intake of populations. If I were following that I’d be making sure each portion was at least 80g as the plan intends (and only one can be fruit juice, plus potatoes don’t count)
The 30 plant thing is related to the microbiome and is promoting variety as a way of encouraging and feeding the gut bacteria which play such a vital part in our health. The more variety of microbes you have in your gut the better. It’s about polyphenols etc not just fibre and vitamin content.
But just as an aside - if I make a stir fry I’m absolutely using at least 80g of each vegetable because why not? High volume, low calorie, good nutrition. Why wouldn’t you!
