View submission: Do you eat your 5 a day?
Not everyone has the luxury of being able to go to the shops every single day (every day- really?!) these days as most of us are working full time and juggling other responsibilities like childcare, housework and looking after parents. When I hear people say this sort of thing breezily like it’s no effort at all, it makes me think:-
1. they live nextdoor to a supermarket
2. they are ‘homemakers’ and don’t work
3. they are sanctimonious pricks
If I bought and prepared all our meals from scratch using fresh ingredients every day (the only way to 100% avoid ‘processed’ foods) I’d never have time for leisure, playing with my kids, walking the dog. It’s no way to live. Yes we all should eat more veg, no we don’t need to shop every day. Because that’s insane.

You don’t need to shop every day. I cook from scratch and only shop once a week. Most vegetables and fruits will last a week if you store them properly. The ones that don’t I will use first. I also buy frozen and canned vegetables.
I will also often make enough food to last a few days. Curries, pasta sauces and casseroles can all be reheated.
I have children and work full time. Even an elaborate dish like a lasagna only takes about an hour max to get in the oven, and we’ll eat it for 3 days. And it has 5 vegetables in it already.
