View submission: Does Slimming World make sense?

If it worked the company would have gone bankrupt.

They're also known to put syns on brand named products once they bring out their own version of that product.

Any company that finds a solution to obesity that actually works is going to be worth billions. In fact that’s exactly what’s happened with ozempic.

It’s not like obese people are a limited market that will evaporate if slimming world actually works. More than 60% of people in the uk are overweight or obese. And if slimming world managed to cure all of them there’d be fresh batches of fat people every year.

From what I’ve read about slimming world I really don’t like their way of approaching things and there’s lots to criticise them for. But this idea that they’re deliberately failing to help people because curing obesity is a bad business model takes 10 seconds of critical thought to see how absurd it is.

This is a bit of a daft logic.

It's essentially like saying that alcohol treatment programs are ineffective, because they wouldn't exist if they work.
