View submission: Does Slimming World make sense?

It all feels very multi-level marketing to me.

I've worked in numerous places where there is a Slimming World group constantly trying to get people to sign up. The whole sins thing immediately put me off

I had a manager who lost a fair bit of weight going to slimming world, he told me he was considering quitting his job to become a slimming world rep in his local area, it's a shame he didn't because he was awful at his job.

He also put a fair bit of the weight back on, what I took from that is that it teaches a very rigid set of rules and doesn't actually build good habits to help people keep the weight off long term.

All the bollocks like "I can have as much of X as I like, but never any x" as if calories are nonexistent in some carb heavy foods made me cringe.

Calling any food a sin (yes I know they spell it syn but come on!) and tying eating to moral failure is incredibly dysfunctional and disordered.

It's for people who want a cheat code to losing weight, and it's pretty toxic.

Had a friend who was explaining to my wife that the avo on toast she ordered was "sinful" while tucking into a plate of cheese baked gnocchi with no hint of irony, and indeed no clue about calorie control.

Also served me "carbonara" once which was essentially spaghetti with scrambled eggs and it was rank. I've never let him forget that one.

It costs £1500 a year for the licence to run 3 SW groups.

So, if you run 3 groups, £500 per group or say £10 per group week. Say £20 for the room hire.

You need 6 people paying a fiver to cover that. Every other person paying a fiver is gross profit (plus whatever you get from selling product etc).
