Why wouldn’t they though, when your prescription changed? As a customer you can say ‘I’ll keep my current frames, thanks’ or, if you’re so inclined, ‘no, I’d prefer to keep my current, incorrect lenses’ (however, their quest for sight correction is less of a money grab and more so, y’know, you can *see* properly, kinda important if you’re driving, working, reading… anything really. There’s no good reason to *choose* poorer vision).
What I think a lot of people don’t realise is that you can keep your existing frames if your lense prescription changes. Sure, they might try to ‘upsell’, especially if your frames are a few years old or a bit shonky. But ‘big eyes’ isn’t out to literally rob you blind!

I was sold my glasses based on a 0.25 prescription. When I picked them up, the optometrist told me they wouldn't make much difference to me and I should take more breaks away from a screen. Totally swindled by specsavers

Honestly though the sales assistants are all dead inside. They are constantly berated about targets and sales by up high and frequently screamed at by customers. The bonuses for the upsells are not worth it. The optoms are in the same boat any chance at conversion is taken because they get given grief too.
Chain opticians are hell on earth

I personally wouldn’t consider 0.25 a change that would require a new prescription unless you had concerns about your vision or symptoms. Sometimes in a test a 0.25 change can cause a surprising improvement to your vision. I would always show the patient what they have in their glasses now and show them the difference so they can see what they would get if they updated. Then again my sight test to glasses conversion rate is 30% specsavers is around 70%
