You’ll be surprised the number of people who don't know the difference coming to the hospital expecting free glasses in some cases because it’s the NHS.

An optician is NOT an optometrist.
They have separate qualifications and roles.

Easiest way to think about it is that the roles are analogous to:
Ophthalmologist - surgeon
Optometrist - GP
Optician - Pharmacist

Agreed if you have an actual medical issue you should go to an ophthalmologist. And the entire eyewear industry at least in the US is a racket
