View submission: What's something you never understood about the opposite gender?

Why so many women insist on buying and wearing uncomfortable shoes just baffles me.

I once walked to a work meeting with a female colleague and by the time we got there her feet were literally bleeding. She needed bandaids. When I asked why she would wear such uncomfortable shoes, her reply was “I didn’t think I would walk this far today“.

For me it used to be the "Those shoes look so nice, and I see women in movies and on the street wear them all the time, so I should be able to do it as well". In the spirit of "If a pair of shoes exist, they must be wearable, right?" What nobody tells you is that those shoes are uncomfortable for everyone, and that some shoes are purely made to look pretty, not to be comfortable.

I'm a woman and I don't understand this either. Your feet are the base of your body support- and they should operate as functionally as possible. I don't fuck with uncomfortable shoes.

That's why I quit wearing uncomfortable shoes no matter how pretty. Why would someone look at my feet anyway?

Some shoes are just for walking to the car and into the restaurant or theatre and then back to the car.

But a lot of “flats” are way way way way way more uncomfortable.

Like way more. Like toe breakingly more uncomfortable.

A sensible heel will always be the most comfortable type of shoe.

So not like a pointy toed stiletto heel type of shoe. That’s the first type I mentioned.

But a block heel, two or three inches, maybe even 4 if the sole has a small platform and cushioning…

That’s the most comfortable shoe. A lot of us have very high arches.

If I wear a sneaker I might not be able to walk that long. In a sensible heel, I can walk all day. Like literally hours and hour a day.

I’m a woman who usually doesn’t fall for this by 4 weeks ago I wore a new pair of shoes I normally consider wearable (wedges). When I got home, took them off, my hip was in immediate pain. I spent the next few days trying to “walk it off” and it didn’t get better. Broke down and went to a doctor and turns out the shoes caused my hips to get out of alignment.

Never again.

as a woman, idk. Consistent use of high heels can be so damaging to your feet and spine, and I don't even think they look that good. invest in nice leather work shoes/boots, people!

I have this argument with my wife. Shoes should be one thing above everything else. FUNCTIONAL

But no. She doesn't want function. She wants fashion.

To hell that it's screwing up her feet.

Infuriating.

Nah. Birkenstocks and blundstones are the ONLY shoes I willingly wear.
