i think you have a weird "small sample size" issue here, because i was absolutely under the impression that most people have internal monologs and not having one is classified as like, a sort of condition lol

Most people has internal monologue. But there's other people who think in images, and those who think in both. Also there are very few people who think like in a tridimensional kind of way, which I find awesome and fascinating

I've asked about 100 people at this point in an informal survey; most people do have monologues but it's not a very intense majority; it's about 70% of people I've polled. I strongly suspect people who say that can think of nothing usually don't have one though. I've met people who describe having an internal monologue who are able to "turn it off" but only like two.

A side benefit of this poll is that I've learned aphantasia is probably WAY more common than is typically thought. It's something like one in five people ime.

I only recently learned that not everyone has the inner discussions and monologues.

I think most have it, but some don't.
