I told that to my 7 yo grandson the other day and he wanted to see. So I get a bar of Ivory and it went straight to the bottom of the tub. Am I remembering something else?

My grandpa would carve bars of Ivory into boats so I could play with them in the bathtub.

It did float because they whipped it before it got formed into bars. They changed the formula in the 1990’s I think after that it didn’t float anymore

Wonder why they changed it? You would think fluffing up the product would be cost effective for them. I love ivory soap. It reminds me of my grandma’s bathroom and her huge clawfoot tub.

If you put Ivory soap in a microwave it doesn't melt. It foams up.

Yes. In the Cub Scouts we carved little boats out of it because it floated.

It used to. It doesn’t anymore, they changed the formula a couple of years ago.

My mother still has a very old framed New Yorker cartoon hanging on the wall that references the floating ivory soap.

Am I the only one who can't get the wrappers off of ivory soap? Do they put the wrappers on while the bars are still wet???

My granddaughter's other grandmother is named Dove. Her sister is Camay and Camay named her daughter Ivory.
There's some random trivia on soap names for y'all.

My grandmother bought Ivory soap during the Great Depression because it was cheaper than the others. It was also less soap so it was used up more quickly, getting my mother into trouble.

I remember as a small child, my mother bathing me in the lake while camping and using Ivory because it floated and it wouldn't get lost under the water.

It never did in my shower. Actually, if that ever happened it would've scared the heck out of me.
