you're wrong about this.  people *do* exist in circumstances where the only question is whether to pay the rent or buy groceries.  maybe not your kids or their friends, but there are a lot of other people than them.

it's a (maybe unintentionally) insensitive attitude to carry.

A few outliers, sure, but the vast majority are seeing the results of their decisions and I can guarantee they are spending money on “wants” that causes a struggle with “needs”.
