Hey OP. 48 year old married father of two in the UK here. Three rules I’ve learned over the years that have made my life very simple:
- At work, whether you like it or not, the boss is the boss and that’s that. The sooner you make peace with this concept, the sooner you can just relax into your job
- My dad taught me that real men are kind, honest and generous. As a man, try to be all three and you’ll be amazed at the results. ( * he also taught me that when the ref blows the whistle to start the football (soccer) match, smash your nearest opponent as hard as you possibly can - he’ll be looking over his shoulder for the rest of the match)
- Understand your values and stick to them. They don’t have to be good or indeed virtuous - just figure out what brings you contentment and focus on that. It could be money, it could be recognition as an expert, it could be charity work - just be true to yourself.
