This. Most people in the service industry aren't doing it as a career choice. They're doing it to pay for further education so they can a better job, or they're between jobs and are too proud to go on the dole. Some are in debt and would rather take a second job and make good on that debt than default and leave their creditors holding the bag.

The type of person who looks down on service workers is usually the same type of person who looks down on those who are in debt, unemployed, or under-educated. You can't have it both ways. As my father (86) says, any legal work is honorable work.
