View submission: Living with no Retirement money
My dad is 85. He and my Mom bought a cheap apartment in NYC because that was all he could afford. Now, 50 year later, we still all live the in apartment., My dad, my husband and my kids. We cover all the costs because my Dad only has a limited income, but if he sold the apartment he would be rich. He wants to hand the apartment down to me. So I cover all food and apartment expenses and at the end, his SS and limited savings allow him an otherwise comfortable life, he will leave me the apartment. But if he is still alive in 5 years, we will have to take a mortgage out on the apartment as he will not have enough to live on.
