View submission: Living with no Retirement money
This gives me hope because I'm in basically the same mindset at 41. I've seen far too many people die before they ever got to retire and 'finally enjoy life', so we're consciously front loading our life experiences. I spent lots of time with the kids, we travel, live in NYC where we've always wanted to be, etc. i often times have no idea how we're pulling it off until I remember we have no retirement other than an old house we own outright. But I still think we're doing it right

I think you’re wise. I put everything into a plan to retire next year at 55, wife 62 and do loads of travelling.
fate decided not, disability struck and now I’m retiring at 54 this year but not able to do any of it.
do it whilst your bodies can, you never know when your health life expectancy ticked is due to be punched .

I think you are too, especially with a house you own.

I agree. Don’t wait. My family on both sides have lived into their nineties for a few generations, but the experiences given to our kid is worthwhile and I am glad to do the trips that we do now. We own a house outright upstate, and the kid has been going to school in three countries already.
