View submission: Living with no Retirement money
Some live off solely on disability, social security, government subsidized housing, etc. Some will never be able to retire and continue working until the day they drop dead. Some may be lucky enough to have a family member who will take them in.

Bingo! I’m paying $700 a month for my FIL (wife’s step father) to have a roof over his head. He has three kids of his own that don’t do shit for him. He knows he has outlived his money. At the end of the day he is left with $250 a week for groceries, power bill, cable and gas bill.

Conversely, my wife's parents had to have their youngest son and his whole family move in with them.

Many of those on SS never saved, and this was literally their only plans for retirement. I’ve worked with several older folks over the years and it was crazy to think they HAD to work because SS was all they had. This was twenty years ago, so I could only imagine how far those checks (don’t) go these days.

We were fortunate to have a dear friend leave us a paid-for house. Otherwise we’d still be working (70 and 72.)We’re able to live on just SS.

This country should be ashamed.
