View submission: Are you *really* anonymous here?

I am a retired public relations professional. First rule for my clients: Never put anything in writing you don’t want to read on the front page of tomorrow’s newspaper. “Anonymous” or not, it’s a rule I follow on social media.

That's exactly what I tell my kids. Some people are geniuses when it comes to digging up stuff on the internet. We've all heard the stories about someone not getting the job because of past "party pics".

Yep. Privacy is a myth. Assume everything you do is public. Because it probably is.

Yes. Never put anything in writing or in a picture you don’t want everyone else to see.

Completely agree. I practice restraint even though I want to say or do more. Can’t. You just never know. AI is getting too smart for my own liking. Who knows what it’ll discover.

In my profession, I was taught to document everything as if it’s being read out loud, sarcastically, in court. I do not follow that same advice on Reddit but maybe I should

Don't put anything in writing that you don't want read back to you at a trial. The wise man taught me that, and I passed that on to my former students.

Me too, because I know that anyone who even knows me would know who I am by user name and perhaps 3 or 4 posts. I don't say anything I'd be ashamed to acknowledge. I sometimes post things I'm embarrassed about, or maybe even something I'm ashamed of, but I don't make stuff up, and I don't insult people. I wouldn't *advertise* my Reddit profile but I also wouldn't deny it.

Only if you crave society's approval or cower from dissent.
