Elders of Reddit, what are some differences between the feedback you've been getting from people in your offline life and people online? or has it been similar?

I’m not sure what sort of feedback you’re asking about. If it’s relevant to the question, people IRL are much less polarized and much more polite than people on line.

The IRL feedback I have gotten lately is that: I should really watch my sugar because I overdid over the holidays; stay away from energy drinks they are horrible for you; go see Nosferatu it is an amazing looking movie; Jokic is having a great season but so is SGA and he'll get the MVP due to voter fatigue; I focus too much on the past especially when I have a negative filter; and Star Trek Section 31 is horrible.

The online feedback I have gotten lately is that I am an 11 year old, but also a boomer, and an ignorant Nazi troll pedophile incel oligarch douchebag idiot who knows nothing about history politics science philosophy sports movies or how to please a woman. Oh and also Star Trek Section 31 is bad.

What am I supposed to be getting feedback on? And from whom?

I don’t ask for feedback online or receive it. I do read and comment in a fashion subreddit but I don’t post /ask for input on my outfits. 🤷🏻‍♀️

IRL I get informal feedback from my students about how class is going. Periodically I get formal feedback from other professors when I am evaluated.

By and large my online and offline experience run parallel as being basically invisible.

Online friends think I’m tall.

It doesn’t matter where you are. When you get to be my age you don’t give a flying bat’s ass what anyone thinks. For what it’s worth I refuse to discuss politics with anyone. I refuse to judge people based on their political views. So there you have it.
