Every Christmas, mom made special cookies, fudge and divinity. Every January 1, the Divinity was thrown away with one piece eaten. As a child, I could eat a bowl of sugar cubes smothered in honey, but Divinity was far too sweet for me or my sister. You?

Divinity is awesome. One of my grandmothers used to make it with moonshine and send us two tins every Christmas. One with, and one without. One Christmas when I was a kid I ate the wrong tin.

We LOVED it in our house! Of course, I’m from the South, so maybe it’s a regional thing?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE divinity! I hate nuts (in my food).
I recall when I worked at a breakfast diner, customers would make desserts, candy, confections during December.
One lady Mary would make fudge and divinity. I’d pick the divinity and pull apart the nuts.
I told her Thank yous! And she was surprised that anyone liked it. No one ate it. I told her I don’t like nuts. And next year if I got a tray of no nut divinity- her and her husband’s meal would be free for December (only once a day, only themselves (on Sundays they came in with the church group) but if they brought in their daughters the meal would be complimentary (on me)).
It was a deal. Three years of awesome confections the way I liked. And they saved money. Her husband told me that she felt like her holiday spirit of making and sharing treats was appreciated once again- like the good ol days.
I can’t make yummy yummies- but I can exchange thank yous.

My husband says every year he misses his mom’s divinity. I am not a huge fan, but she did make it with almost a cotton candy consistency so it was unique.

My aunt used to make it (and fudge) and send it out at Xmas. I loved it. I loved the nuts in it. After she died, I found a recipe for it, but when I tried to make it, it wouldn’t set.
It’s definitely an “old person” candy - I assume from a time like the great depression or something.
I miss it even more now because I can’t have chocolate, and divinity has a similar texture.

I like the stuff even though I rarely eat it anymore. In my town we have a candy shop that cranks it out from October to December. Light and fluffy. Good stuff.

I've not made it since my teens. It was never my favourite, I'd rather had "butterscotch fudge" which I now know is scottish tablet.

I loved divinity when I was a kid- my mother used to buy it at the department store next to the bank where she worked (department stores used to have candy counters).
Haven't had it in at least 50 years though!

My grandma always made divinity with plenty of pecans. I loved it!! I'm a good cook and have success with making various candies, but just can't get the hang of divinity.

I never cared for it. I vaguely remember my grandmother making it. I remember something about the weather having to be just right or it wouldn't come out right.

An old maid aunt made bite sized divinity with a lot, a whole lot of chopped dried fruit and nuts. It was good and very different from the traditional cookies all the others made.

My grandmother made divinity for Every Easter and Christmas. I always loved it as a child. She would do one batch just plain with a pecan half for decoration in the center. Sometimes she'd make coconut divinity for my mom (I don't remember if she mixed the coconut in, or just rolled it in coconut while it was cooling though.
As as adult I've only made it once or twice. Mostly because it's just so finicky to do and so rich.

I just made divinity with my parents yesterday. They’ve made it every year for as long as I can remember. In their previous house in another state their neighbors would await their plates of divinity every Christmas. My parents made 10-15 batches a year. In their current house of 10 years nobody appreciates it or how finicky it can be to make it. They mostly just make it for family gatherings.

I made some yesterday but hadn't eaten any yet so when this came up I went and cut a hunk to eat while I type. It's called divinity because it's divine. Time to go get some more.

My stepmother who was much older than my Father made it every year. Sometimes we helped. I don’t care for it to eat but it was fun to make.
