My concern is the literally hundreds of subs I'm subscribed to causing me have to physically unsubscribe/opt-out from something like this as opposed to getting the choice to opt-in if it's something I'd be interested in. (P.S. Thanks for your work as a mod. It's something that takes time, and goes unrecognized a lot.)

Indeed, I can appreciate that. I mentioned elsewhere, but personally once we see how things shake out I lean towards a onetime message going out that says "Here's the newsletter, to continue receiving this CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE."
So every hears about it, but if they don't click the button their not bothered with it again.
