You ask specifically if IT was ok with you including stupid memes on your software requests? That’s an unusual interview question.
If your extensive professional experience hadn’t taught you to wait until you could read the room until you did something “funny”, well, now you have more professional experience.
I’ll add onto that…don’t assume someone’s acting a particular way because of their age. Especially if they are over 40. Because that can turn unprofessionalism into illegal harassment.

I asked what if they had a solid IT department and a positive relationship with them.
The IT guy at my last job made me a home made Persian Baklava before my departure. I find it unlikely the old boy in the new job will be baking me any pastries 😅
An IT department that is calling hr on the new guy for a non offensive meme, 3 weeks after an email is sent, all while giving no guidance on the actual IT questions in the email does not sound like effective nor a collegial relationship.
Sounds dysfunctional and petty.
