I saw a huge electric Hummer the other day in the wild and thought it was the perfect vehicle to win over all those people that said that they'd never ever drive an EV

Dealerships offered great deals expecting the EV tax credit to disappear in 2025. Dealers apply it to the sale/lease of the vehicle at time of purchase.

We (Arkansas residents in very rural part of the state) bought an F150 Lightning in 2024, our friends have bought a cybertruck, and another got the b4zx or whatever Toyota calls that thing. So far all have been happy with their decisions and none have had any problems. (Fit and finish/build quality on the cybertruck is definitely not as good as the Lightning IMO and they've had some comments about that but it's been reliable for them and they like it.) Our year with the lightning has gone so well we're planning on buying a longer range EV SUV to replace our old SUV this or next year too.
Public and commerical charging infrastructure in our part of the state is still very limited and the dealers seem mostly clueless about their EV offerings, but with a 240 plug and the free charging station Ford included with the truck it's been nice to never have to stop for gas during the week (I am NOT a morning person and I haven't been late because I needed gas once this year lol) and on longer road trips we haven't had trouble getting a charging station. We have saved a ton on maintenance, gas, and the uptick in the electric bill was *way* less than what we used to spend on gas so we're happy with our decision.

I own the Ioniq5. Love it. Would be really hard to go back to a gas powered vehicle after driving it.

While this doesn't apply to registrations, few people in the state are aware of the progress at Envirotech or EVT Vehicles based in little ol' Osceola... a stones throw away from Big River Steel and HyBar.

I would have probably considered one recently for my wife had our home’s electric not been old. I imagine an upgrade and outlet addition would be quite expensive. She does have chargers at work though.

If you are getting a new car, a new EV makes more financial sense than a comparable ICE in a lot of cases.
A new Tesla Model Y is cheaper than a comparable Honda CRV.
Price them out.
And then you should consider running costs. EV costs ⅓ as much fuel, and have zero maintenance beyond tires and wiper blades.
Used EVs are also dirt cheap right now because of all the EVs coming off lease. Higher income folks lease EVs to get around the tax limits. That means used EVs are a steal when they come off lease.

NEArkansas Note: A large portion of farmland immediately surrounding TWO steel mills in Osceola/South Mississippi County is being repurposed as "solar farms." I'm not sure how the power is routed... or used, but both mills have EV charging stations on site. BRS1 has at least 10 stations at their admin building alone.

i've been driving an EV for seven years. i charge at home. Tesla have a mobile service department out of Tulsa. they rotate the tires, check the brakes, replace the cabin filter and wiper blades. that's it. that's the service. ends up costing about $120. we started using the local shop for the tire rotations, brake checks, and wiper blades. seems like the mechanics up here have no problem working on them.
on a different matter of charging, you can't really travel anywhere in the state except along I-40. the state really needs to start investing into installing more level 3 fast chargers.

Out of curiosity, I wonder how many are Teslas in spite of the higher quality offerings by more experienced manufacturers.

The Prius is still much better. Doesn’t catch fire and burn you up. And it’s a democrat car.

Am I the only one worried about the power grid? Lord knows the infrastructure is lacking for a massive amount of EVs

The only reason why me and my husband have not purchased a Tesla or ev was his argument was that " it costs money to put a charging pump in your house." " The total cost of ownership is dependent on when the battery either 1. Does 2. Explodes. 3. What if you need to cross country or something how will you and how much time will be wasted simply on charging alone."
