View submission: Let’s Talk About the February 5th Protests
Not being affiliated with a major org is not an excuse to not involved major orgs and especially trade unions. It’s also not an excuse to not alert organizations like the National Lawyers Guild so that there can be legal observers and documentation of abuses by police if it comes to that.
I’ve seen a lot of comparisons to BLM and Occupy— Aa someone who did both, legal observers were present and made a difference in keeping police in check. Both movements were also far more organized than anyone here seems to know or want to acknowledge.
Please, at the very very least, alert the National Lawyers Guild and try and get as many major cities covered as possible.
Lastly— why were state capitols targeted and not congressional district offices or local branches of federal agencies? This is happening on the federal level. Your state government has very little to do with anything here.

Exactly, and in my area the lack of outreach to activists who are already on the ground/have been doing this work for many years is making people very very suspicious

I hope protestors plan sustain movements and mutual aid as well. Protests and signs in this era have proved to not do all that much unfortunately
