In my personal opinion, the best solution would be to simply have it as a 
separate MIME-type, something along the lines of "text/gemini+gzip". I 
don't recall how this works with MIME-types, but it should be something like this.

I do support your idea, though. I think compression would be a nice 
addition, but it doesn't belong in the protocol itself, but the file format.
