I haven't looked much into the IETF/IANA processes yet because, as I've said, I want to focus on first getting the final details locked down so we can start productively working toward it. But I have wondered exactly what is involved and to what extent we sacrifice control. I have a generally positive perception of the IETF, but I am also acutely aware that the cultural/ideological perspective of Gemini folks is rare and unusual in the wider world, and I don't know to what extent it would be valued and preserved by a standards body that necessarily nowadays must have quite strong ties to the exactly the kind of big, powerful commercial entities that Gemini is trying to provide an escape from...
