Somebody just asked me about this on Mastodon earlier today.

The spec so far does not mention SNI at all, which should definitely be
changed.

It seems to me like servers really ought to be tolerant of it not being
used, which implies having a designated default host.  But also that
clients really ought to be sending it.

Are there good reasons not to make SNI mandatory for clients?  If not
the spec could basically enforce Postel's law here, clients MUST use it
and servers MUST tolerate its absence...
