RE: Consuming Less Content

This post is inspired by bouncepaw's post:

I find myself idly scrolling through feeds on my phone at all hours of the day and I hate it.

Lately, inspired by SolderPunk's posts about living offline by default, I've been trying to be more mindful of how I spend my time online. I don't think I could manage a total cutoff of the internet by default. (although the idea does interest me)

If I find myself just scrolling through Reddit or Tildes or the Fediverse and still feeling bored, I make a conscious decision to close the site and go get my Kindle or a book and sit down and read. My theory is that reading a book requires more engagement than memes or headlines and I've definitely noticed my attention span deteriorating lately. This isn't to say that I'm quitting Reddit or Tildes or anything else, sometimes I do feel like I'm engaging with something interesting on these sites. Sometimes I'm just in the mood for some digital junk food. But when I'm just bored from over stimulation, I think it's important to recognise that and do something about it, otherwise I'm going to end up like the people in Wall-E.
