Gemini is a great protocol. However the content in gemini space is mostly personal blogs. So much that we could see gemini as a blogging platform and not a information library.
I miss a way to find information on gemini, or rather, I miss information on gemini. Why isn't there a wikipedia here? Where can I get information on how to fix my car? About the history of Uganda? etc.
What does exists on gemini is a lot of opinions (including this). This isn't wrong, many great ideas has come from the interaction and sharing of ideas. However this is what make gemini bad as a blogging platform. There seems to be missing a good way for people to comment on blogs and there aren't that many discussions on gemini, mostly people shooting into space. For gemini to be really useful and viable as a platform, we need to find out a way to interact with eachother.
Maybe the protocol is good enough for this, maybe it's just a matter of better clients (my client only let me send text written on a single line) and server software (serving raw text is easy. Dealing with comments is harder).
Hopefully a good gemini server and further development of cliƩnt software will fix this. Until then, send me an email:
