Introduction

Really into the swing of fall now. The air is getting quite chilly in many parts of the northern hemisphere and those of us in the subtropical and tropical climes are entering the extremely pleasant time of year. I hope everyone is enjoying whatever aspects bring them happiness during this part of earth's orbit around Sol. No Emanations in this issue but I think Spelunking is so good this time around that it more than makes up for it. Lets see what's happening in geminispace.

Hidden (and not so hidden) Gems

Cobra's Capsule

A prime example of gem that deserves to be less hidden. Cobra's capsule is written in the Scots language, though it is also available in English, Italian and Scots Gaelic. Check it out!

Galaxy Hub

A new collaborative community tech news hub exclusive to geminispace. There are already some articles up on the capsule and they are looking for contributers and feedback. Check the email link at the bottom Galaxy Hub's front page for more info if you like to write about tech or would like to share your feedback.

Thurk.Org

This lovely capsule is one of the type that I enjoy the most. A personal space with varied content that aligns with their passions. It has recipes, poetry a very active glog and more.

Sumpy Gump's Exploration Surprise!

Each day this page on Sumpy Gump's capsule displays three random capsules. A great way to discover something in geminispace that you may not have otherwise.

Exploration Surprise!

illegaldrugs.net

To put aside any misconceptions, the first text you'll see when visiting this capsule is "no drugs, all code". The capsule is an experimental playground of gemini tools like a news aggregator, a distraction free readability converter and a message board among other things.

Fahrenheit Outpost

by ew0k

Near the Ockerland Maelstrom lies a decrepit old research outpost owned by the Westham-Yamato Corporation. The maelstrom is an interesting phenomenon in itself. Something that those science people would wet their pants if they had a chance to probe. For whatever reason that's impossible, though. Something something dimensional crap or whatever. The outpost has recently been fried by some sort of outburst from Ockerland.

The background doesn't matter much to a jar head like you. You're private security; corporate marine. And you're here because someone in management thinks the Data Core of Fahrenheit is too valuable to let go to waste.

So here you are. You and your team; six soldiers in total. You've just boarded the station by way of cutting the docking bay doors open.

You'll need to be quick about this, because the maelstrom is unstable and nobody knows if another eruption will occur or what it might do to the remnants of the station.

How to Play

You need a six-sided die, a pencil, and a piece of paper. Start by writing down what you have: six soldiers.

Each room has two or more exits. Your goal is to retrieve the Data Core from the control center. Failure is not an option.

When you enter a room you start by following the description, and then rolling your die and following the result from the 'What Happens?' table. Then go back to the room page and choose a door. Sometimes you'll lose team members. That's okay. They're expendable. You're the last to go, but once you've died the game is over and you have lost. Sometimes you get modifications on your rolls. They're cumulative, meaning that multiple modifications stack. A +1 and a -1 become 0. Remember that a result can never be less than 1 or more than 6.

You start in the Docking Bay. When you board the shuttle with the Data Core you've won.

P.S.

ew0k was kind enough to let me publish Fahrenheit Outpost in its entirety here for smolZINE. The original is hosted on ew0k's capsule (link below). Check out the whole capsule while you're at it. ew0k is the best!
