week 44 - vinyls be upon us

main events:
- having bemoaned music Not Being What It Once Was, partner and i spontaneously decided to become vinyl people. got a player, a few albums, and spent a nice hour per day listening to the soundtrack of our teenage years. honestly i expected this hobby to be a little cheaper. but i'm looking forward to discovering what all the thrift shops have in store for us.
- all soul's, had a quiet commemoration at home, didn't even go to a cemetery. it wouldn't be the first time we go to a random one, in place of visiting our own dead in the home country. but it was still nice, setting out offerings, flowers, candles, treats. even carved a little jack-o-lantern, to tie it in with halloween. he's been a surprisingly cute companion to our evenings
- long weekend! more time with the partner. woodsy walks, movies (it's hobbit time), pizza.
there are always tarot happenings:
- did a few new moon readings over on mastodon!
- lisa papez's book finally arrived (after i cancelled the "preorder" on amazon and just got it from the local equivalent without delay). i'm enjoying making my way through the book. it's definitely aimed at beginners but i didn't have anything like that back then, so keywords is not a method i knew to use. adding a "word" element definitely feels like expanding my toolkit, because generally the meanings are a kind of feelings-soup for me, this might make it easier to literally put them to words when needed.
- trying to continue the dropm78 challenge but as expected, it will need to be solidly pared down to keep my attention. i can't think through and write a solid essay every day
- for a breather from my shadowplay which took like two weeks to make (if you count the box and the notebook) and which i've used exclusively since then, i've shopped my shelves for something Different/Opposite in feeling/aesthetic. took out some decks with a fairy tale feel. inspiring!
- encountered a new spread which has been giving exciting results, i'll link it at the end of the post. it uses a major as a lynchpin/hub and minors all around, it's interesting to map out the relations between cards within its specific geometry.
- also... i was so happy that i'm not talking myself into buying more decks... alas, i have become tempted by the nameless one. definitely not getting the grimoire because i wouldn't be witching with it anyway, and the price is egregious. but i do love the illustrations on the cards and it's tempting as something "different". you don't often get "different" in tarot nowadays... need to sleep on it, because it's also one of those "i don't know if i want to contribute to the understanding that this is an acceptable price for a bunch of cardboard" decks.
small stuff:
- another dud apartment viewing,
- a series of bad nights and resistant days,
- finished peachtober and offered it up for download on itch,
- pumpkin carving was so fun we're considering doing seasonal decoration crafts more often,
- once again trying to stay off the internet and focus on activities i actually want to be doing but somehow can't bring myself to...
well, that was more words than i thought i had in me! enjoy november, everyone, i hope it's a gentle one.
