• "the tarot: history, symbolism, divination" by robert m. place - a great introduction to the history of tarot and traditional way of reading the marseille decks
• "the easiest way to learn the tarot - ever" by dusty white - very conversational but chock full of exercises to teach you how to read, how to join up the cards, read in between the lines etc.
• "a walk through the forest of souls" by rachel pollack - one of the greats, simultaneously deep and playful, a series of experiments and novel ways to view tarot and its functions
