Emo / Screamo

Screamo/skramz/emo(tive hardcore)/whachamacallit is when hardcore artists went on one of those retreats where men learn 'to listen to their inner self' but got fed up with the omnipresent misoginy and boys-y aesthetic of it all. So now they're angrily crying about their ex, the state of the economy, and exorcising their inner demons and fear of the disgusting state of the world's politics through melancholic guitars and sporadic tantrums. And it sounds god-damn amazing. It's been mt favorite genre for a few years, and as much as its best years have passed about two decades ago, still some bands find the rhythm to show me something interesting.

Okay but why

Because the world is broken, and you feel that you can't do anything of consequence to fix it. Because what transpires in those lyrics has affected us all at least once, and having a space to channel this energy instead of doing serious damage to your walls might help with the realisation that more kind spirits exist out there, we're not alone and we should reach out to our friends and community. We've only got just short of 80 years in this place, so better feel at home.

You dance to it like a toddler having its biggest tantrum.
