Powerviolence is a musical genre in the lineage of hardcore punk. Taking it a step further, this genre exasperates the aggressive qualities of the already pretty hardcore sound. Breakdowns are more common, sometimes being the main feature of a song, there's no note of boys' club 'group chants' like pretentiously clique youth crew bands do it, and much of the melodic aspect is eliminated. This results in a track not sounding like a progression at all.
Because sometimes you've got a lot on your plate and a lot brewing in your mind, and you just need to put it out there, but you're not quite in the mood to reduce everything to absolute ashes (you're not ready for pure grindcore, but there's cross-influencing). It's often much more political than many screamo bands and, well, less emo-screamy.
Before you ask, no, I don't have the faintest idea how you can dance to it.
I won't link any individaul songs seeing as they're VERY OFTEN shorter than two minutes. Apologies for the YT links, I'd have added other 'platforms' if I could.
