I was born in Aotearoa the year CO₂ atmospheric concentrations reached

320.96ppm, up from the around 280ppm that had been in balance for thousands of

years. CO₂ has now reached 417.31ppm¹, time is running out.

M. and I live in a 100m² house on a ¼ acre section in a small rural town south

of Ōtautahi. M. works on an organic vegetable farm and I do several hours of

harvesting there each morning, though most of my time is my own and I have

plenty to do.

A number of creatures found a home here when one was needed. When M. bought the

house in 2011 it came with several cockatiels in an outdoor aviary and goldfish

in an outdoor pond. There's an ever changing population of guppies in an

aquarium, Toots and Terry the red-eared terrapins, Peaches, the adult cat, and

the year old kittens, Lloyd and Fern. Most recently came Ed, a black

labrador/German short haired pointer, who was rescued by Dogwatch, December

2021.

I'm anxious about the climate crisis, mass extinction, and the extremism of the political right.
