thoughts

first a short but sweet punk EP from 偏執症者 (Paranoid), the title track reminded me of Repulsion so it won me over right off the bat. non-essential but not bad!

S2PID is on my fedi moot Jake's 2024 album of the year list, in the top spot. well, it didn't blow my socks off to that extent, but i did enjoy it. EMAILS was very fun & overall i like their wit & the grimy garage sound.

i am not well versed in electro so i feel underqualified in the face of A Field Guide To The Void. it's sparkly and warm in tone, a boppy sardonic companion for cyber-dystopian times. i dislike the style of distorted vocal used on a couple tracks, much as it is in line with the genre and themes, that's just a personal taste thing tho. not something i will return to but a fine time was had.

Low Flesh is a slice of sludginess that knows when to pick up the pace and when to let things churn. i'm going to get picky tho and say i did not need an almost minute-long sample to begin that final track. samples used this way are a personal bugbear for me, sorry! overall it was not exactly my jam but still a decent listen.

figured i should have something festive so why not The Kloven Hoof Of Krampus? i may never listen to this again but it's a super fun idea executed well. possibly the only acceptable christmas album in existence.

it's strange to see people describing the Jack de Quidt PARTIZAN soundtrack as raw, harsh, or intentionally unpleasant to listen to because i don't find it to be at all, most of it seems to fall under synthwave or ambient, and even the more industrial-influenced tracks don't get particularly wild. my expectations were a bit upended by this tbh but i enjoyed it anyway, a chill time with a lot of pretty melodies & flourishes.

last cab off the rank for today is Holy Wire's The Ending Of An Age. i liked this a lot, it's full of romance and yearning with some catchy hooks too. Fault Lines was an easy favourite for me, a very solid album tho.
