Files/Utilities
Acrobat Reader. The Adobe Acrobat
Reader is free and is necessary to view the files available on this site,
which are in Adobe .pdf document file format. Click the link to go to their
website and download it!
c42.pdf. C42pdf allows one to
combine all of the Tiff files in one directory into a single .pdf file. A
Tiff file is a standard graphic file format. With C42pdf, only one type
of Tiff format is supported, the CCITT4 format that comes from directly
scanning a piece of paper. Not 100% user friendly, but a very useful, free program when it works.
DaVince Tools. DaVince Tools is a collection
of .pdf file utilities. For example, it allows one to translate many .tif
files in a directory into .pdf file format, and combine them all into one .pdf file.
This is useful for those scanning public domain music into a universal document format such as
.tif, who wish to convert to .pdf and upload it. These tools are shareware, so those who find them useful should pay the fee
and register them.
Get Right. Get right is a program
that will allow a user to resume interrupted downloads. Some files on
this site can be as large as 1.5-4 megabytes. If one's internet connection
stops while downloading such a large file, this utility will allow one to
resume downloading the file at the point where it was cut off.
Ghostscript. Ghostscript is a very
useful, advanced, free program that allows one to view postscript (.ps) files
and convert them into various other document formats, including .pdf format.
The Ghostscript program is typically used in conjunction with the Ghostscript
Viewer, a free graphical interface for Ghostscript that is also offered at
the Ghostscript site. One can use Ghostscript without the interface, but it
is much harder to use. We use it all the time, but not without the viewer. Ghostscript
is very useful for working with sheet music files that are saved in the
Postscript document format.
