The Guitar Archive at Nevada University. Last update: Oct 31 1994

The guitar archive at Nevada is an anonymous ftp server
of thousands of files containing words and music (in
chord and tab format) specifically written for use by
guitar players.

These files come from individual guitar players all around
the net, and are collected here to be generally accessible
to to anyone with ftp facilities.

If you are considering making a contribution to the archive,
please read the notice on copyright, below.

PLEASE NOTE: Nevada is NOT a request service.
		Nevada is NOT a bulletin-board.
		Nevada IS an anonymous ftp-server.
------------

This archive is organized from this level as follows:

./ALL.gz	: A g-zipped tar file of all the music files at the
archive. If you don't know how to use gzip or
don't have a hard drive to spare DON'T get
			  this file.

	./ALL_other_stuff.gz
			: A g-zipped tar file of the directory 'other_stuff'
which contains various utilities for guitar.

	./ALL_new_this_week.gz
: A g-zipped tar file of all the files listed in
			  ./new_this_week/INDEX.

./FLAT.INDEX	: An index of all the files at nevada,
			  in single line output.

./INDEX : A complete index of the files at nevada.
This has been generated with ls -RC

./INDEX.DIRNAMES: A list of the directories at nevada.

	./Nevada.Guitar.Archive
: This is a blank file to aid 'archie' searches
for mirror sites to this archive.

	./README : This README file!

./acoustic	: A mirror of the acoustic guitar site at
   			  csclub.uwaterloo.ca:/pub/u/dgaudet/guitar
			  (Formerly hobbes.linfield.edu)

	./bin : Not accessible. (They're boring utility
                          programs anyway.)

./classical	: A directory of a paltry few classical artists.
			  Classical submissions are encouraged, nay
			  demanded! :-)

./incoming	: A directory in which to place submissions
using 'put' in ftp. (See below.)

./new_this_week	: A directory of files archived at the
site in the last seven days.

./new_this_month: A directory of files archived at the
site in the last thirty days.

./other_stuff	: Contains documents relating to various chord
			  utilities and compressants etc etc

	.//
: Artists' directories are arranged by
initial letter, then by artist's name.
			  eg ./z/warren_zevon

----------

Naming Conventions.

Directories: Lower case is used throughout, words are separated
		by underscores.

	eg	bryan_adams
		rem
		pink_floyd
		cure (not the_cure)

Files: words are separated by an underscore and have a suffix.

	eg	one_step_up.pro
		self-esteem.tab
		the_house_of_the_rising_sun.crd (not house_of...)

------------
Suffix Conventions

*.lyr The file contains the lyrics to the song named.
*.crd The file contains chords for the named song.
*.tab The file contains (at least some) tab for the
			named song.
*.pro The file contains chords for the named song
			in 'Chord.Pro' format.
*.btab The file contains tab for the bass guitar
			for the named song.
*.ps The file is a 'Postscript' file.
*.gif The file is a gif file (usually of tab.)
*.num The file contains chords given in the
Nashville numbering system. See the document
			'numbering_system.txt' in ./other_stuff

Chord files usually contain lyrics.
Tab files often contain both chords and lyrics.

Submissions

Contributions to the archive are always welcomed.
If you have a file to submit, simply send it to the following address:

	guitar@nevada.edu

Make sure that the file contains the name of the track and the name of
the artist. You should also take care to include the name of the author
of the file. If you are not the author, please state this.

Tabbing a work by listening to the song is okay as long as you credit
the musicians involved.
However, files that include material taken from songbooks or magazines
or any other published material will NOT be archived due to copyright law.

We accept collections of files in tar or gzip formats.

Files can also be placed in the directory ./incoming.
Simply ftp to the site as normal, move (cd) to incoming, then type:
	put filename

./incoming is the only place you can do this. Please send e-mail to
"guitar@nevada.edu" with a brief description of what you've uploaded
in case we have questions.

We promise to archive your submission in the main body of the archive
WITHIN TWO WEEKS of its arrival at the site. (The New Management is
usually MUCH better than this.)

Files submitted to the archive become the property of the archive.
We will remove the header and .sigs, except for leaving the author's
name and e-mail address.
