had dinner with b.c. tonight. he is incredible, and a great mentor. even if unaware of my existence even when i'm right in front of him.

the bar experience with him is a bit surreal. the servers seem to pay extra special attention to us because he draws so much attention to himself. i waddled through the meal as if i wasn't scared of what was on the plate, but the food was good. i had no reason to be afraid.

he offers much advice, and i realize now more than ever all of the things i didn't know when i first moved to the city a few years ago. he urges me *not* to look back too much and criticize myself.

"of course you didn't know those things, so why beat yourself up for that?"

he told me how he built his first teams, made an impact in his organization, built a bit of an internal brand for himself and his team to bolster the respect they had in the rest of the office. i took home a few examples i think i'll emulate for myself, like making our work more visible and clearly delineating a physical space where our team does creative work.
