Had a vision. I ended up a bard, like the first time I played.
Entered Britannia and bought a sling a cloth armour. Can't afford anything else.
The guard tells me not to kill non-evil creatures. I say I don't but how would I know them?
I met Pepper at the weaponry. She's a bard who claims that "bards know many things" but I then I don't know what to ask her.
Joe is a drunken fighter who wants rum. I feel like giving him rum is not a good idea.
Sprite is a beggar, here. I have her 1gp.
Mentor escaped Magincia and tells me that pride exists without truth, love, or courage. Also, there are demons in Magincia.
At the inn, lots of drunken fighters called Joe. Also a bard in green called Cricket who's playing and so he won't talk. I also bought food and ale at the counter but learned nothing. Lamb chops, 4gp, and ale, 2gp.
Shalimar watches over children. This requires compassion. Shalimar asks me about my kids by I say that I have none.
The kids tell me that Cricket knows the mantra of compassion.
The sick fighter Sebastien knows that Mondain's influence has not left the world. An artifact remains, he heard at Buccaneer's Den. If I want to destroy it, I should ask at the pub there of the skull. Right on!
Cricket tells me the mantra of compassion is MU.
Gweno the jester tells me to give to the needy.
I find Iolo the bard who would join me but cannot – because I am the bard of the party! I remember this confused the hell out of me as a kid. I think it was around this time that I started feeling that the bard class was the best class there is. My first AD&D character ended up being a bard called Elric. Don't judge me. 😄
Time to go. But where? I faintly remember there being a city in the forest to the north-west. That's where I can find a druid. And there's a city to the north-east where I can find the tinker. Hm... Let's go for the tinker first because I think the city in the forest is hard to find.
Left the city, saw a moon gate and entered. I waited for a bit and it reappeared. I did this two or three times and now I'm in Moonglow. Is this where I find the ranger? Time to find out.
Met Calabrini. He tells me the shrine is to the north.
Tyrone used to search for the blue stone. The stone of honesty is found on an altar in the dungeon of Deceit. What does one use it for? I don't know. It is used within the dungeon altar rooms and in the abyss.
Met Cosima the alchemist. She asks me whether I know how to best mix spells and I say yes. She says: good! 🤨 Now what's that supposed to mean?
As I ask her about reagents, she tells me out of the blue that the sleep spell actually requires but one part spider silk! So: 1 part spider silk and 1 part ginseng!
I met Cromwell the paladin. He tells me the mantra is AHM. Nice!
Rebelias exhorts me to "speak the truth and shame the evil forces!" I wonder how that works.
Met a child that wants to be my friend. Cool. I also met a starving journalist called Tracie. She says that being a writer is low paid but glamorous. I think the author of the game is trying to tell me something!
Dekker is a jester. So many jesters! Mariah joins me! Yay! I'm not opening any chests in town. I guess food is now more of a concern.
The kid William is eating a sandwich and happily shares a bite with me. I like these little interactions.
Patric the humble shepherd. He tells me that humility is not derived from the direct combination of truth, love or courage. Weird. I thought that's what it was? When he asks me whether I am totally humble I guess answering yes would be prideful so I'm saying no. But I shall strive to be.
Inoo tells me that a great quest will lead me into the abyss where the codex awaits. Ominous.
Daranor "moves the sun" – the moons are his enemies. Weird. I can't bring myself to say that I believe the story. That'd be dishonest, I guess? My compassion is strong, however.
Shakespeare tells me to beware corruption.
Will there be bribes in this game?
Browning admonishes me not to lie for truth never hurts the teller. I think I was at the right age when I played this game.
At the magical herbs shop, blind Margot sells me reagents. I have ginseng and garlic. Spider silk would get me sleep. I like it.
Here I can buy everything, apparently: Sulfurous Ash, ginseng, garlic, spider silk, blood moss, black pearl.
I left the town, mixed four sleep spells, walked around for a bit and stumbled into the Lycaeum. What am I doing here?
I met Shylock the Meek outside the gates and gave them 1gp.
Tymus welcomes me to the keep of truth. How many cities follow the principles of truth? I guess now we're getting into that mystery of eight virtues and three principles. Two to the power of three is eight, so I feel the answer must be two? Or perhaps it is three? I really need to ask around and not read the Wikipedia page.
Nigel teaches spells and he does know a special spell but he won't tell me unless I know it! I guess I'll have to find somebody else to tell me.
Nobody to talk to at the healer's.
Beth Frasier and Robert Frasier. She asks me if I seek truth and I do. But no hints are forthcoming.
Scatu is the advisor. I am advised to visit the Seer often!
And another jester. This one is called Zajac.
There's also a "strangely familiar" druid named father Antos who holds great knowledge. But again I don't know what to ask him for.
Palamar at the observatory has a telescope. Apparently there is a knob and I can set the dial and I shall "see". OK? Searching at the end of the telescope I find a knob marked A-P. I select… Holy cow, I get the maps of all the towns in this game? Do I make screenshots? WOW! 😲
A truth seeker tells me to meditate at each shrine for 1, 2 and 3 minutes and then I shall know the paths to goodness.
I left. Fought some orcs. Fought more orcs. Fought more orcs with a troll. Yikes! When the flee, I let them go. I really should give Mariah a sling.
