2022-05-08 Gridmapper new release

It’s nearly 10:00 in the morning on a Sunday. I’ve been up for a while. In the mornings, my bones ache.

A few days ago I reviewed some very old emails I had in my inbox containing patches for Gridmapper. I don’t quite remember what I didn’t like about them back when I got them. As I was looking them over, I figured I might as well install them.

A web app to draw maps, with a strong focus on keyboard use. Mostly useful for dungeons, castles, possibly spaces ships. – Gridmapper

Gridmapper

If you prefer the old version, you can still get it: Gridmapper 1.4.

Gridmapper 1.4

As I’ve been using it to draw some taller maps, I find that the browser scrolling up and down along with my keyboard commands is super annoying. If anybody knows how to stop that, I’d love to know.

Thank you very much, I hadn’t thought of that! Seems to work locally. 👍

I like the updates! Up and down spiral stairs are very helpful.

At the time when got the proposal I was concerned about the localisation of the map: U and D doesn’t work for German, for example. But a few days I looked at it and figured, it doesn’t really make a difference. If I need to publish something for a German audience and I really need the info, I can just edit the SVG files. 😀

Oh, very good point! Maybe using a little up/down arrow symbol rather than a letter would be more universal? I don’t know much about SVG but maybe I will play around with it.

Excellent. I think right now it’s a text element in the SVG definition, and using a unicode arrow doesn’t look good if I remember correctly, so we’d have to draw a little path element in there.
