The construction crew outside is paving the road for what seems like the third time. There’s no budget like road building budget!
When looking at the Helmbarten skill list, you’ll notice something I put there: singing. Singing as a skill? Yes. Singing is for bards, of course. And priests. I love religious music. So in the branch of manipulative magic there is singing. There are four branches of magic: aggressive, passive, manipulative, and transgressive.
But you can also learn to sing as a fighter if you train as a rider. There are four branches of fighters: mercenaries, guards, riders, and officers. I imagine knights learn about love songs and epics through singing (from bards, I guess).
And what about the good-for-nothings? Again, you can learn to sing if you’re a hooligan. When I look at modern hooligans, singing is definitely key. There are four branches of good-for-nothings: thieves, hooligans, liars, and murderers.
I think that basically covers the uses of singing: to impress your fellow high society peeps, to unify a mob, and to know interesting songs and epics. Singing can act as a generic lore skill about monsters and places. Singing is not magical; it really is just singing. But singing is magic. I’m saying this as somebody who does not sing and rues the fact.
